Jingle Bells, Batman Smells

This question always causes mini-riots during the holiday season so why not just throw that bomb out to our lovely cowineco customers.  Which is THE BEST Christmas movie ever?

Cupid Has a Crossbow, Who Is James R. Pelton? and Dear CoWineCo Customers

The Photography of James R. Pelton

Santa Anita Racetrack, CA (1945)

We have a new show up on the CoWineCo walls courtesy our old friend, Patti Pelton. Her father

James was born in Indiana in 1920 and after a stint in the Navy during WWII as a radio operator, he attended the Art Center College of Design to study under the likes of Ansel Adams, George Hoyningen-Huene (Vogue Magazine), Fred Archer and Edward Steichen. He soon began work as a freelance photographer for the Los Angeles Times and other clients in and around Los Angeles and Northern California. In the mid-1950s, Buick hired James as their in-house photographer. Tragically, his career was cut short in 1962 when he was electrocuted in his home.  Now, his daughter Patti honors his work and legacy by sharing his stunning photographs.

We're honored to host Patti and the opening of her father's show this Saturday, February 15th from 4 - 6pm.  For more on James Pelton's photography and their family's story, CLICK HERE.

Cupid Has a Crossbow

Happy Valentine's Day folks.  Maybe you're heading to a date, maybe you're staying home with your significant other, or maybe you've got your sights on someone but can't get up the nerve to approach him/her.  Well, a wise old man once told me that contrary to popular belief, Cupid has a crossbow.  This crossbow in particular actually -- a Russian-made compound Ak-48 with foldable stock, 'goat's foot' cocking lever and a steel, free-sight mount -- yeah, he tended to ramble that old man....anyway.... I'm not really sure what he meant...he was old and single actually...so clearly he hadn't found his mate...but i think it means "don't beat around the bush" in some indirect way.  Hope that helps.  You know what really helps nerves?  wine.  We got your bubblies and pink stuff to celebrate properly.

Dear CoWineCo Customers,

When we opened this business three years ago on February 15th, we were terrified.  We built every corner of the place ourselves with our friend and designer Rick Crane, and though we won't name names, a couple other LA wine stores made it clear to us that we didn't have a chance in hell (oooh, the mean streets of wine retail....cus when you're a shark, you're a shark for life!).  Well, when we missed a Christmas opening, missed a Valentine's Day opening, and then had water dripping through our light fixtures literally AS the electrical inspector was pulling his car up in front of the store, we thought, hey, maybe they're right.  But no!  No I tell you!  8,000 tastings later, we have the CoWineCo we all know and love thanks to all of you that keep coming back and keeping us on our toes.

Seriously, humor aside, we love what we do and that was the whole point of dropping everything, driving across country, and diving in.  Cheers to all of you fine folks!

I would just like to point out that CoWineCo shares its birthday with Matt Groening, Ivan the Young and Youtube.  We turn 3 today and because the terrible 2's were not terrible at all, we expect the 3's to be pretty damn remarkable.  No pressure.  We're just sayin' is all.

Lazy Sunday Tasting

Sunday the 17th

$12/person

4 wines and gourmet cheeses from Auntie Em's Marketplace

Our Sunday tastings will now feature slightly higher-end wine selections. Our Friday tastings get a little too loud to discuss the wines in great detail (we're not complaining), so if wine knowledge is your grail, Sundays are the best tastings for you. Call or email Sunday for selections.

The Poll Booth - Wabbit Season, Election Season, Wabbit Season

We aren't changing the poll just yet because this last one is just too interesting.  We asked all of you who you would vote for for President a couple weeks ago and interestingly enough, at least in the Democratic race, we've watched Obama slowly catching Clinton's numbers in the past week.  Can it be true?  Northeast LA wine consumers mirror the country? Is Eagle Rock our country's real heartland?  If you haven't voted, please CLICK HERE and vote.  We removed Mr. Romney after he pulled out and added Mike Huckabee (woops...innocent omission there).  Oh, and Jamie Farr is catching up to Ron Paul as well.  Jamie Farr/Ron Paul -- DREAM TICKET!

See You Soon,

John and Jen

"They got into a huge fight about politics," says an insider close to the Pitt family. [Brad, explains another insider, supports Barrack Obama, while Angie's a John Edwards fan] "Brad ended up calling her immature.  He says the next thing he knew, Angie was cursing at him and throwing a glass of wine in his face."
