That means lots of folks crammed into family rooms, drinking booze, eating food, and heckling the screen. We're going to do our part to help. We've paired a wine with each Best Picture nominee for you to taste while they review the nominees Sunday night.
Best Picture Nominee Pairing Avatar Shipwreck Chardonnay... wrong movie, right director. The Blind Side High Note Pinot Noir...the story of both the movie and wine - "down and out kid makes good" This label is soooooo ugly it's amazing anyone buys it to try the damn good juice inside. District 9 Anglim Bien Nacido Viognier...it comes to you unassuming enough, but even though sequestered to the 'other white varietals' isle, it will eventually take over your world, sip by sip, until it OWNS you. Run, don't walk. An Education Bet & Bouche Cremant de Limoux... Lured by the sophistication and age-old history of this bubbly, you drink a little bit at first, but then can't stop drinking and drinking, then things get uncomfortable and you wake up with a big headache. The Hurt Locker Chapoutier Bila-Haut Cote du Roussillon Villages.... It's pretty peaceful when you first open it....and you know Robert Parker gave this $13/btl of wine 92ts which means it's probably going to explode with flavor and it does, but you survive, but then it's really addictive, and you keep going back for more....but it doesn't end with you leaving your kids at home to drink more 'cus that's too depressing. Inglourious Basterds Siete Cuchillos Malbec...aka "Seven Knives" Malbec... It's got a violent name, it's spicy and smoky and dirty and makes you speak in non sequiturs like Tarrantino's writing. Precious Paco & Lola Albarino... because you need something light, inviting and easy-going to drink while all the liquid in your body exits via your tear ducts while watching this film. A Serious Man Domaine Bunan Cotes de Provence Red.... It's kosher and has a funny label. Up Sharpe Hill Ballet of Angels White... It's got a kid with a pet bird on the label...it's sweet with a good finish....you and your grandpa would probably both like it. Up In the Air Cabriz Dao White... It travelled quite a distance to get here and if you drink enough of it, you will probably think you look like George Clooney....you'd be wrong of course, but you would think that.

REGULAR WINE TASTING SCHEDULE
Friday Wine Tasting: Prodigal Wine Returns TONIGHT! Friday, March 4th 5:30 - 8:30 pm $15/person for 5 wines + artisanal cheeses from Auntie Em's So, the final wine in tonight's flight I wrote up LAST week but then the truck didn't show up in time for the tasting...LOVELY! Good times. But the good news is, you get to taste it tonight. One of the very, very, very few bright spots in this crappy economy is the fact that people are unloading wine on the cheap. Today's Paso cab is kinda ridiculous. It's not going to change your life, it's not going to make you pontificate the meaning of complexity in wine, but it tastes damn good for $12, so the fact that it's $7 means you will be happy. If light, subtle reds are your bag, many of our tastings would be right up your alley, but not tonight's tasting. Tonight we feature some big, bodacious, round, fruity reds, most of which are new to the store. Add on an aromatic but dry torrontes from Argentina and a full bodied, but dry and crisp Sauv Blanc from Mendocino and there you have it. wines Sesquipedalian Sauvignon Blanc 2007, Mendocino, California La Yunta Torrontes, Argentina Tolosa Edna Ranch Pinot Noir 2006, Edna Valley, California Maggio Petite Sirah, California Sevona Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles, California

See You Soon, John and Jen
The Sky People have sent us a message... that they can take whatever they want. That no one can stop them. Well, we will send them a message. You ride out as fast as the wind can carry you. You tell the other clans to drink better wine. Tell them Toruk Makto calls them to drink grower Champagne! You fly now, with me! My brothers! Sisters! And we will show the Sky People... that they can not settle for too-cold, over-oaked sludge! And that this... this is our wine! ~ Jake Sully, Avatar (this quote may or may not have been altered by the staff at CoWineCo)
