Sake and Me

Sake....most everyone likes it when they have it, but they don't go out of their way to have it in their home.  Though that is changing quickly.  What do you like best?

Hallowine, A Not-So-Lazy Sunday Tasting, and Is That a Badger On Your Terrace?

If you're a regular reader, you know that the Eric Kent wines are some of our favorites released each season.  We tasted the new releases last week and they're completely stunning as usual.  So please join us this Sunday, October 25th when we will debut both of these wines as part of our Lazy Sunday Tasting.  And paid Sunday tasters will get 10% off all Eric Kent wines that day only!  Very limited!!

Winemaker Notes:

Stiling Pinot Noir 2007: "While our ’06 vintage has put on fruity, flashy weight since it’s release, we expect this one to remain a sleek and sultry charmer. A brilliant ruby color catches your eye, followed by an alluring perfume of cranberry, cherry, anise, strawberry, rose petals, baking spices, musk, clove, pine needle and sweet pipe tobacco. OK, that’s a long list. But the sexy and changing nature of this wine invites the verbiage given a little time in the glass. As do the medium body and nuanced flavors once you take a sip, where dried cherry and cranberry, pomegranate, more baking spice, nutmeg, cola nut and a gentle kiss of vanilla complete the ensemble. This can be savored over a long evening now, but we humbly suggest a bit more cellar time for maximum pleasure." -- $43.99/btl

Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2007: "What is Chardonnay supposed to be? All butter and oak? Or lean, clean and mean? Neither one, clearly. And that is what this wine is all about – finding an elusive balance that is both crisp and full-bodied. Clean and precise with wonderful acidity, yet rich with a depth that asks to be taken seriously. A pale yellow color and inviting aromas of golden delicious apple, honeydew melon, lemon zest, white peaches and subtle suggestions of minerals and sweet dill get the show started. The palate then takes the stage and finishes the performance with meyer lemon, honeydew, lime, grapefruit, a hint of spicy vanilla custard, and subtle underlying oak and minerality that round out a pure and lingering finish. While inviting and invigorating now, another year in the cellar will offer rewards to those with the patience. "

-- $37.99/btl

Clic Delle Venezie Rosso 2007, Italy - $8.99/btl

So, a highly regarded winery in Italy is asked by a resort group to make them a killer red wine for cheap.  They make too much and with the economy being what it is, the resort doesn't take as much as they had promised.  So what happens?  The wine gets shipped to the U.S. of A and we get a fantastic, cheap wine.

Ronco dei Tassi (or "Terraces of Badgers" -- terrifying sounding, huh?) is the winery behind this little beauty, situated in the gorgeous Friuli-Venezia Giulia region near the Slovenian border.
Enrico Coser, son of Ronco Dei Tassi's owner Fabio Coser, is the brains and talent behind this bottling.  Unless you've had Merlot from Friuli, you would not in a million years guess the varietal in a blind tasting.  This is 100% Merlot in its most rustic, earthy and balanced form.  CLICK HERE to read on...

Hallowine

I know, I know, you're fretting about which wine to bring to your Halloween party because you don't want to be the stupid one who brings a wine that isn't scary-like.  Problem solved...

The Owen Roe Sinister Hand Red and the Sharpe Hill Ballet of Angels White, AKA, "Creepy Baby Wine"

If either of these don't scare the hell out of you, we have a wine with two dinosaurs on the label.  Personally, I think dinosaurs are cuddly and cute, but you might be one of those other types.  And that's cool.  I guess.  Just don't admit in public that we know each other.

Please RSVP to: info@cowineco.com or (323) 478-1985

So, we're going to stray from our normal Friday theme lineup and just tell you this, the Infinity White is one of the best whites for the money we've found all year.  Were it not getting cooler, this wine would be on our homepage.  Grenache Blanc and viognier blended with balance, acidity, and no oak for $9.99/btl.  It's kinda one of those bottles where you stare at the person selling you the wine and wonder if they're dim or really, really smart for pricing it so low.  So come for the Infinity and stay for the other four pours this Friday.  I guarantee you won't regret it.  That kinda sounded like Men's Warehouse "you're gonna like the way you look....I guarantee it"

Replace that line with "you're gonna love what yer drinkin'....glug glug glug" and you have the infommercial we never made, but should have.  Any infomerical Producers out there that work for wine?

Can't Take Credit For That

For the last six months, we've heard some pretty horrible stories about credit card rate hikes, abrupt cancellations, and conversations bordering on abuse from credit card phone operators.  Just today a friend of ours had their rate hiked to 29.99% after spending and fully paying off $1500 in two months on travel.  When they called the bank (rhymes with "shittybank") they said, and I quote, "we no longer want you as a customer".  It would be a lot more helpful if they would tell us that up front rather than sending tiny little pamphlets with even tinier print saying "dear customer, we'd like to kill your pet dog or kick your grandmother down the stairs but since that's trespassing, we're just going to double your interest rate and if you don't opt out via carrier pidgeon TOMORROW there's nothing you can do about it."

So we had this idea...we have many thousands of you here on our email list and we want to know what's going on with your credit cards during this very difficult year.  Go to our blog HERE and comment, and we'll compile all the stories and send them on to our Congress member.  You can use your name or post anonymously...entirely up to you.
