So, we're going to cut to the chase on this one because we just tasted advanced samples on Wednesday and it simply can't wait. Ok, here goes...this is the best wine deal we've found in two years. There, we said it. Our friends at Owen Roe in Washington (Abbot's Table Red, Ex Umbris Syrah, O'Reillys, Sharecropper, etc.) have launched a new line called Corvidae Wine Company which, amongst other amazing deals, includes this completely ridiculous chardonnay from Yakima Valley that just blew our minds. No butter, no barrel, no malo -- all racy, full flavors of Meyer lemon, tropical fruit, and a very balanced, subtle spice on the finish. And now you're asking, "hey, colorado wine company people, how much will this golden nectar from the gods which will cure all ills cost me?" And we say to you... $10.99/btl, friends. $10.99. Sometimes we forget to bring up the fact that we have three monthly wine clubs, which makes our current members happy because the selections don't run out as fast. But, we are obliged to spread the love. Have a birthday coming up? Wedding gift? Early Christmas shopper? Flag day 2010? Click the picture above to see details.

Venture In the Slipstream
Sorry, this is the only chance i'll ever get to somehow work my favorite album of all time into a wine title. Anyway, if you've been looking for a silver lining in this recession, the Slipstream Chardonnay '06 is one of them. The distributor needs to make room for some new whites and has dropped the price on this puppy dramatically. To give you an idea of the quality, we would have purchased this at nearly double the price. But instead, we have it for $7.99/btl. From Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright straw. Vibrant citrus and pear on the nose, with subtle accents of baking spices and white flowers. Refreshingly dry and crisp, with fresh orchard and pit fruit flavors and a lively citrus zest lift on the back. This subdued but elegant chardonnay shows very good persistence. 88pts" (Jul/Aug 07) According to the Wine Spectator: "Bright and juicy, with pear and white peach flavors on a lively frame, finishing with a refreshing lilt. Drink now through 2011."

Wine For the Confused If you haven't seen John Cleese's 2004 special on wine, it's now up on Hulu and is really a must see for beginners and afficionados alike. Not surprisingly, Cleese harpoons the typical snobbery associated with wine appreciation while providing an easy to swallow education as he pops in and out of the wineries of Santa Barbara where he still lives.
We're also very proud of the results when you google "churches grapes very small rocks" (for those of you that are wondering what the hell that meant...it's a Monty Python Holy Grail quote....try it at a party sometime...it doesn't take long for people to slowly walk away from you during a conversation)
