As we move into 2009, we'd like to share some thoughts and perspective. Depending on how old you are, Baby New Year can conjure up different images. If you're in your late 20's or older, you probably picture that naked, clay abomination in Rudolph's Shiny New Year with giant ears, a top hat and absolutely no business being in a Rankin/Bass Christmas special. Do I sound bitter? Really, as a kid, when that baby martian came on screen, you got popcorn or used the bathroom or made some shrinky dinks or something, waiting for Rudolph to get back on screen. Horrible little freak. Well, the myth associated with Baby New Year is that he is a baby at the beginning of his year, but quickly grows up until he is an elderly bearded man at the end of his year. At this point, he hands over his duties to the next Baby New Year. Well, like Obama, this next Baby New Year is probably rethinking his choice of occupation right now. Poor baby...here you go, a rattle, a bottle, a stuffed animal, and the worst recession in 78 years...now go play. But let me push this idea a little further (and more than likely, too far)... we had a little baby new year of our own last year and as all parents know, it is stunning to watch how much that little rotund guest in your house changes in 1 year. From wiggling, crying and cooing to talking, running and advanced trigonometry. It's ridiculous. So, let's say 2009 is our communal wee one and it's our responsibility to shape and mold it the best we can. We think we've all learned how much things can change in one year, so maybe the point is to just try to enjoy ourselves and the ones we love the best we can. So, from the bottom of our hearts here at CoWineCo, thanks for continuing to help us do just that...4 years of keeping our doors open and our bar full of laughter. We wish you all a safe, happy and prosperous '09.
