The Great Chalkboard War of 2008

Everyone remembers where they were when the Great Chalkboard War of 2008 broke out....or least we do.  I was sitting at the front desk when I turned to Jen and said, "I think some guy just very methodically moved our sidewalk chalkboard sign two inches to the right."  What started as a curiosity became a small town battle in sunny, strange Eagle Rock.

Now, before continuing, some of you may be wondering what this has to do with wine.  Well, it has to do with mom and pop businesses, Los Angeles neighborhoods, and the relationship between the two staying healthy (and yes, it's a short week and September is a notoriously slow month so...humor us).  And we were recently reminded of how fragile this relationship can be with the unfortunate demise of Doughboys on 3rd street in Hollywood.    CLICK HERE to read on...

Fattoria Laila Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore 2006, Marches, Italy

Winner of Longest Wine Name in CoWineCo three years running, this fresh and fruity white we just had to sneak onto the homepage before the LA heat went South for the Winter.  Verdicchio is one of our absolute favorite white varietals and it is commonly passed up for it's more famous Italian sister, pinot grigio.  Verdicchio has elements of peach, apricot and pear on the nose, a medium to light-body with a silky texture and tastes of almonds and minerals.  CLICK HERE to read on...

The East Side Tomato King

In case you woke up wondering, "where will Cam Slocum, the East Side Tomato King, be on Wednesday, September 3rd?"  The answer is, he'll be here at CoWineCo generously serving fresh tomato slices, bruschetta and other tomato-centered goodies direct from his farm in Mt. Washington.

Cam is a long-time CoWineCo regular who recently decided his calling was a 500 plant tomato farm in Mt. Washington.  It's a unique calling, but once you meet Cam, it will all make sense.  Trust us.

And as many of you know, Wednesdays are no-corkage nights so a couple of us will be on hand to help you pick out the perfect wine pairings.

Wednesday, September 3rd

Beer drinkers appear more likely to vote for Sen. John McCain in November, while those who enjoy wine say they’re more likely to vote Democratic in the fall. Among registered voters who prefer beer to wine, McCain has a 53 percent-46 percent edge over Sen. Hillary Clinton while McCain winds up in a virtual tie with Sen. Barack Obama among beer drinkers. In the head-to-head match-ups with McCain, Sens. Obama and Clinton each win a majority among registered voters who prefer wine to beer.
