When running a wine store, you obviously engage in many discussions about drinking and the effects of drinking. Everyone has their legendary drunk story and nearly everyone has their own personal hangover cure. We've heard everything from butter and egg sandwiches to peanut butter and a Camel Light (personally, I don't think you can't beat a French Dip Melt from Dave's down the street). And many customers claim super-human abilities like:
- I can drink white wine all night and not get a hangover - it is impossible for me to get a sake hangover - if I drink two glasses I get a hangover, but i'm fine if I drink more than a bottle
Well, yes, it is true that some people are affected by the sulfites (1% of the population) and histamines are more prevalent in red wine, so the white wine thing could be partially true. Though i'm guessing that pesky 10-15% alcohol thing gets in the way at some point. As for sake, yes, there are little to no preservatives used in most sakes and it is proven that preservatives can add to a hangover. But 'impossible', well.....hmmm...then you're that lost superhero that I've been looking for all my life....I'd like to be your superhero sidekick and I'd like my name to be "The Imbiber". As for the last point, it could be partially true. I'm WAY better at pool after a couple of beers, then terrible after a couple more so I'm sure there can be a sweet spot with alcohol as well. Have a hangover cure? Have superhuman tolerance abilities but only on Tuesdays? CLICK HERE to sound off on our blog (and yes, this was totally inspired by that Slate article on hangovers).

April Schedule and Beyond
Ok, folks. All you rose fans, our annual rose tasting will happen Saturday, April 12th from 4-6pm. Please RSVP to info@cowineco.com. There will be a flight of 3 domestic roses and 3 French roses, each flight is $10 or do both for $20 and see which country is more magnificent (rose-wise). Specific selections will be announced in a couple of weeks.
Now, for you sake lovers. Our sake tasting will happen Saturday, April 26th from 4-6pm. Selections and cost are to be determined, but we just wanted to give those with busy social calendars and a hankerin' for rice wine a bit of a heads up on the date.
And now for the 'beyond' part....the question most frequently asked at our store....when will we begin our white Sangria Saturdays this year? The first Saturday in May, my friends. And every Saturday thereafter until it gets cool again or until Jen and I cannot handle the smell of mint, cinnamon and peaches anymore...whichever comes first.

Gerraud beat Heistrom's time by a full half of a second, sending our country into swooning embarrassment for years to come (many of you are probably surprised I even have the gaul to bring this up, huh? It hurts, I know). So why the one American wine at the bottom? Just to remind Mr. Gerraud that the Americans are always called in at the end. wines Chateau de La Greffiere Macon La Roche Vineuse (white Burgundy) 2006, France Guilbaud Freres Le Pre Chatain Rose de Loire 2006, Loire, France Chateau de Caraguilhes Corbieres 2005, France La Bouscade Mourvedre/Syrah 2005, Minnervois, France William James Cellars Central Coast Syrah 2004, California
