Sake and Me

Sake....most everyone likes it when they have it, but they don't go out of their way to have it in their home.  Though that is changing quickly.  What do you like best?

Featured Wine

SOLD OUT *Gustavo Thrace "The Third Bottle" Red Table Wine
Napa Valley, California -- $9.99/btl

January, 2008

The premise behind this wine is simple... when you're having a nice dinner with friends and family, the third bottle of wine that is inevitably cracked doesn't need to be a pricey one.  In fact, your palette is probably worn out at this point so why not crack something good, but a little more affordable?  Well, this little discovery is beyond good.  In fact, during our Friday tasting last night, this wine sold out faster than any other wine in CoWineCo history.

Gustavo Brambila was born in Jalisco, Mexico. In 1957 he moved to Rutherford, California where his father worked for Beaulieu Vineyards. It was there as a child that Gustavo first met Mike Grgich, who was then the enologist at Beaulieu. After graduating from St. Helena High School he attended the University of Oregon on a baseball scholarship. After transferring to the University of California at Davis he graduated with a degree in Fermentation Sciences. In 1976 he began his wine-making career at Chateau Montelena. In 1977 he joined Grgich Hills Cellar as it opened and made wines there for twenty-three years. As a partner, Gustavo (pictured below) is the winemaker as well as the general manager for GustavoThrace.

You just won't find 100% Rutherford Cabernet at this price anywhere else.  Where exactly are the grapes from?  You'll never know.  Because these same vineyards have hallowed names in the Cabernet world, Gustavo won't reveal what makes up his $10 cab for fear of bringing down their value in the wine collector world.  I swear, just a sniff of this stuff is worth $10.
