Jingle Bells, Batman Smells

This question always causes mini-riots during the holiday season so why not just throw that bomb out to our lovely cowineco customers.  Which is THE BEST Christmas movie ever?

Featured Wine

Schonramer Saphir Bock
Germany - $4.75/btl (IT'S BACK!)

May, 2010

Though the heading clearly says 'Featured Wine' we're going to rebel against our own internet architecture and feature a beer on the homepage for the very first time.

As we mentioned in the last newsletter, due to a lovely mistake in our favor we are the only retailer in the United States to carry this beer. Mark Gerlach of Uplifter Spirits brought only 80 cases of this beer into the country destined for beer freaks on the west coast. Brewmaster Eric Toft has made a pale colored Bock beer from a single strain of Hallertau hops called "Saphir".

So, this brewery was founded in 1780 and used to be a resting stop of travellers going between Munich and Salzburg.  After tasting this beer and declaring our enduring love, we decided to look up some info. It's all in German so Google translator to the rescue:

The innocent bright color is deceptive. The intense Sudverfahren results in a very high Alkholgehalt, but this is by unimaginable quantities of the Hallertau aroma hop variety SAPHIR discreetly veiled.Schönramer Sapphire Bock is therefore one of the most unusual and enjoyable member of its genus.

You took the words right out of my mouth.  Get your nose within half a foot from this glass and the aromatics kick you in the teeth (but in a good way).  Thick malty and honeyish aroma with notes of lemon and boozey goodness. Flavors are all honeysuckle, toffee and malt with a gorgeous finish.

We grabbed 10 of the 80 cases and we've got 9 left before it's gone.
